In 2023, the Golden State Warriors may face a difficult decision. As the trade deadline approaches and their ongoing struggles continue, they may have no choice but to dismantle their championship core. Additionally, Klay Thompson’s shooting struggles have not been beneficial to him, leading some to believe that he may be available for trade. If this were to happen, the Philadelphia 76ers are considered the frontrunners to acquire Thompson’s services, according to Bovada (via NBA Central). Other potential suitors include the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Mavericks. Thompson’s recent benching during their victory over the Brooklyn Nets was a tough pill to swallow, but he expressed his willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed. With former GM Bob Myers departing in the offseason, it now falls on Mike Dunleavy Jr., his successor, to potentially take on the role of the villain. The Warriors were unable to reach a contract extension agreement with Thompson, resulting in significant financial losses for him this season. Nevertheless, he remains one of the greatest shooters in the history of the game and could greatly benefit multiple teams if his shooting improves. The Sixers, in particular, are in need of another star player, especially with Joel Embiid set to miss at least a month. Given Thompson’s expiring contract, trading for him would certainly be a sensible move for Philadelphia.
