With the recent discussion about pursuing the legacy of Tom Brady, it may seem quite evident that the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs would consider the former legendary quarterback as his role model. However, the truth is quite the opposite!
While naming the quarterbacks that Mahomes admired while growing up, he excluded Brady from the list and instead mentioned , , , and . During his formative years, the current Super Bowl MVP was primarily a baseball fan, and one would have expected him to appreciate Brady if he watched football. But it turns out that the legendary QB wasn’t even on his radar.
Mahomes stated during a press conference on Tuesday:

Mahomes’ preference for Romo may have been influenced by the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s admiration for him, considering that Romo is often accused of displaying clear favoritism towards Mahomes in his commentary.
Prior to Super Bowl LVIII, the former Cowboys quarterback expressed his affection for Mahomes and referred to him as a “genuine human being.” Romo has witnessed Mahomes’ growth over the years and sees him as a true successor to the legendary Brady, as he retired just three weeks before the 28-year-old QB was drafted by the Chiefs.
This year, Mahomes will become the youngest quarterback to start four Super Bowls as he prepares for his third Super Bowl victory. And in acknowledging this, Romo described Mahomes as a “once-in-a-generation talent” while also commending him for his authenticity.
However, Romo still believes that Mahomes will face challenges on his journey following the big game next weekend.
