Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, on Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has faced this charge, as he had a previous DWI charge in 2018. The 53-year-old pleaded guilty to the previous charge and served 40 days in jail on weekends to fulfill his requirement.
If convicted of this latest charge, Mahomes Sr. could face up to 10 years in prison as it is considered a third-degree felony. The bond for his release from Smith County jail was set at $10,000.
The timing of this arrest is unfortunate for the Mahomes family, as the Chiefs are set to face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11. Kansas City is aiming to make history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004.
