Patrick Mahomes Sr. was detained for driving under the influence late Saturday night in Texas. As per TMZ, this marks at least the third DWI apprehension for the father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
The older Mahomes was also reportedly apprehended back in 2019 for his second DUI and was given a 40-day jail sentence. According to the report, he fulfilled this requirement by serving time on weekends.
Although a DWI arrest is never opportune, Mahomes’ timing is particularly unfortunate. His son Patrick and the Kansas City Chiefs are currently preparing to compete in Super Bowl LVIII in just one week. With the recent arrest and charge of aggravated sexual battery against the quarterback’s brother, Jackson Mahomes, the family is undoubtedly burdened with legal issues.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., a former Major League Baseball pitcher, has always embraced the limelight. He publicly taunted Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals after the Chiefs eliminated them from the playoffs last year. Additionally, during the AFC Championship last week, he was observed enjoying beers at a Baltimore Ravens tailgate outside M&T Bank Stadium.
Prior to this incident, Mahomes Sr. jokingly expressed disinterest in sitting in a suite with Taylor Swift. However, it is now uncertain if he will be able to attend the Super Bowl at all.
Bond is expected to be established on Sunday evening.
