There are athletes who bear a striking resemblance to celebrities. Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, for example, shares similarities with actor Ryan Gosling. Another example is former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Nick Foles, who has been compared to Jon Heder, the star of the film Napoleon Dynamite.
However, when it comes to Brock Purdy, some individuals on social media have drawn comparisons between him and Lee Harvey Oswald, the man responsible for the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. This topic was brought up during a media session before Super Bowl LVIII, when a reporter asked Purdy about his supposed lookalike.
The reporter inquired, “Have you ever heard that before?” to which Purdy responded, “I haven’t, that’s the first time I’m hearing it.” When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Purdy hesitated before replying, “Yeah, I’m not sure.”
For those who may not be familiar with history, Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed JFK on November 22, 1963, in Dallas. This tragic event gave rise to numerous conspiracy theories and inspired various movies. The initial comparison between Purdy and Oswald was made on social media platform X by a user named Josh Chavis.
Chavis tweeted, “Holy s—t. I’ve been trying to figure out who Brock Purdy looks like for the past two years, and it’s Lee Harvey Oswald.” Purdy is currently in his second year with the San Francisco 49ers and gained attention for being the final player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning the title of “Mr. Irrelevant.”
During this season, Purdy led the Niners to an impressive 12-5 record. He achieved a new franchise record by throwing for 4,280 yards, along with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Additionally, Purdy topped the league in QBR with a rating of 72.7. As a result of his outstanding performance, Purdy is now a finalist for the MVP award.
It is worth noting that San Francisco nearly started the season with Tom Brady as their quarterback, if they could have convinced the seven-time Super Bowl winner to come out of retirement once again.
