Swiss activist group Campax has filed a petition against the co-owned sportswear company, On, which is backed by tennis legend Roger Federer. The petition demands fair wages for the company’s seamstresses in Vietnam. Campax, described as the largest Swiss citizen movement, is calling for transparency and wage equality in On’s production chain. The group recently shared a video on social media featuring a man wearing a mask of Federer with fake blood, highlighting the alleged unfair treatment of workers.
The Zurich-based footwear brand, On, has come under scrutiny for its alleged exploitation of Vietnamese workers and prioritizing profits over fair treatment. Federer’s involvement as an investor has raised questions about the company’s practices. However, On has released a press statement asserting that they have always maintained fair wages for their employees.
Last year, allegations surfaced that On workers in Asia were being paid below the legal minimum wage. In response, the company’s spokesperson stated that Vietnamese employees receive significantly higher wages than the minimum requirement. This claim was made public in an interview with Express Sport.
Stan Wawrinka, a fellow Swiss player, has revealed his discomfort whenever he faced Roger Federer on the court. Despite playing against Federer 26 times, Wawrinka was only able to secure victory in three of their encounters. Federer, considered one of the Big Three in tennis, retired in 2022 after winning a record-breaking 20 Grand Slam titles. Wawrinka, the only player apart from Federer to win the Australian Open in his twenties, also represented Switzerland alongside Federer in the Davis Cup, achieving gold in the 2008 tournament.
In case you missed it, the petition against On and the demand for fair wages for Vietnamese workers has gained attention from the Swiss activist group Campax. The group has accused On of prioritizing profits over the well-being of its employees and has called for transparency in the company’s production chain. Federer’s involvement as an investor has brought further scrutiny to On’s practices.
