Red Bull’s Formula 1 team has suspended the female staff member who filed a complaint against Christian Horner, which was dismissed after an investigation. Last month, the parent company of Red Bull ordered an external barrister to conduct an investigation after being informed of allegations made by an employee of Red Bull Racing. On the eve of the 2024 season opener in Bahrain, Red Bull GmbH announced that the complaint had been dismissed. The complainant has the right to appeal, and reports stating that the deadline for an appeal had passed were inaccurate. Legal letters must be issued before any further action can be taken by either party. This occurred at the beginning of this week, leading to the suspension and allowing the complainant to pursue an appeal. Red Bull has chosen to keep the details of the investigation confidential in order to protect those who assisted. Horner has provided minimal comment on the process or outcome thus far. The accuser had continued working with the team, but it was revealed at the start of F1’s second round in Saudi Arabia that she had been suspended with full pay. This action is believed to be related to the findings of the investigation. Horner, on the other hand, was not suspended by Red Bull during the investigation and remained in his role as team principal and CEO. The outcome of the investigation has secured his position, although the team has faced heightened scrutiny due to the leak of alleged evidence 24 hours after Red Bull announced the dismissal of the grievance. The authenticity of the messages in the dossier sent to senior F1 personnel and media has not been verified, and neither Horner nor Red Bull has confirmed their veracity. The lack of transparency from the Red Bull parent company throughout the process has led to rampant speculation since the matter became public over a month ago. F1 and the FIA have become involved by separately meeting with Horner and are closely monitoring the situation, concerned that it may be detrimental to the championship. However, no action has been taken by either organization. Following the Bahrain Grand Prix last week, Max Verstappen’s father, Jos, essentially called for Horner’s departure. He expressed concerns that Red Bull could disintegrate under Horner’s leadership and that the tension caused by this situation could lead to the team “exploding.” Horner is scheduled to speak on Thursday during the FIA press conference between F1’s two practice sessions in Jeddah.
