In the realm of professional football, the Washington Commanders have been creating quite a stir recently. After Kliff Kingsbury removed himself from consideration for the offensive coordinator position with the Las Vegas Raiders, many speculated that he would end up in the nation’s capital. And indeed, that is exactly what happened. It didn’t take long for rumors to circulate about the Commanders’ interest in Caleb Williams, who had previously worked with Kingsbury at USC. Notably, former NFL star Richard Sherman is among those who believe that the Commanders brought Kingsbury on board because they have confidence in their ability to trade up to the No. 1 pick and pursue the USC standout. Sherman expressed his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on “Undisputed,” stating, “The Commanders didn’t bring in Kliff Kingsbury to draft Drake Maye.” In Sherman’s view, Washington is aiming to secure Williams as their top pick.
Sherman also revealed that the Chicago Bears are not fully committed to Williams. They have faith in Justin Fields’ potential to lead them to success, which is why they may consider trading down from their current position. Additionally, Sherman mentioned that the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders are also reportedly interested in Williams, giving the Bears the upper hand in any potential negotiations. This is why the Commanders need to take a proactive approach if they want to acquire him. With the No. 2 pick in the draft, the Commanders have a strong chance of landing Williams. Sherman believes that the Bears are more inclined towards Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr., which could open the door for Williams to join the Commanders and reunite with his former quarterback coach.
