Mike Rockenfeller is scheduled to team up with Gianmaria Bruni at the upcoming IMSA Long Beach sprint race. This opportunity arose as Neel Jani and Julien Andlauer are occupied with the WEC 6 Hours of Imola. Proton Competition manages two sportscar programs, one in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the other in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Unfortunately, both championships have conflicting schedules this weekend, forcing Jani and Andlauer to participate in the WEC 6 Hours of Imola. As a result, there is an available seat alongside Bruni. Rockenfeller previously competed in a JDC Miller MotorSports-run car in last year’s IMSA season and will now return to the GTP category. This decision was made as GTD Pro will not be participating in Long Beach, ensuring there are no conflicts with Rockenfeller’s duties as a Ford works driver. In anticipation of joining Bruni in the #5 car, Rockenfeller expressed his excitement and acknowledged the challenge of performing well at Long Beach. Bruni also commented on the unique nature of the street circuit and the need for preparation due to the shorter race duration. The Grand Prix of Long Beach, which is the third round of the 2024 IMSA schedule, will take place on Saturday, April 20. Bruni and Rockenfeller will face tough competition from nine GTP rivals but will aim to capitalize on the performance of the Porsche 963 while avoiding any potential issues.
