Reigning champion of the Masters, Jon Rahm, made an official announcement on Thursday evening declaring his departure from the PGA Tour and his decision to join LIV Golf. In his statement, the Spanish golfer expressed his pride in becoming a part of LIV Golf and emphasized the growth it brings to the sport. Rahm expressed his confidence in this new opportunity for himself and his family, expressing his excitement for the future.
Following Jon Rahm’s significant announcement, Rory McIlroy, the second-ranked golfer in the world, shared his immediate thoughts on Rahm’s departure. McIlroy’s words serve as a testament to the rapid maturity of the golf world. He expressed admiration for Rahm’s skill on the course and expressed regret that he won’t have as many opportunities to compete against Rahm in the future.
McIlroy even went as far as predicting that Rahm will be a part of the 2025 European Ryder Cup Team when the event takes place at Beth Page. He believes that Rahm’s decision will require the European Tour to rewrite the rules for Ryder Cup eligibility. McIlroy’s endorsement of Rahm for the Ryder Cup team showcases a significant shift in sentiment toward LIV Golf from PGA Tour members.
It’s worth noting that just 2.5 months ago, McIlroy made comments about the European LIV Golf players who were excluded from the Ryder Cup squad, expressing the strangeness of their absence. However, he now recognizes the impact of their absence and believes they will miss being a part of the event more than the other players miss them.
On a lighter note, it’s worth mentioning that Jon Rahm’s attempt to wear a watch in a unique manner is quite remarkable. Despite being right-handed, he wears his Rolex on his right hand, and it appears to be barely hanging on. This unconventional choice raises questions about why a right-handed golfer would wear their watch in such a manner.
I mentioned it yesterday and I’ll mention it again, Jon Rahm joining LIV Golf will not change my viewership of LIV in any way. For me, it all depends on the television presentation and so far, I have not been impressed with LIV’s TV offering.
There is an excessive amount of on-screen graphics, the broadcasts frequently have issues with my TV’s cable guide, and more often than not, there is distracting background music playing while the commentators are trying to speak.
They need to make some adjustments to their TV production in order to capture my attention, rather than simply signing Jon Rahm, who I am excited to see compete in the major tournaments. However, I am just an ordinary fan and these are my personal opinions. I do enjoy watching many of the golfers on LIV and will tune in when the timing is right.
