Felix Rosenqvist secured the top spot in the NTT IndyCar Series race at Long Beach, California. The qualifying session followed a standard knockout format, with the fastest six drivers progressing to the Firestone Fast Six to determine the first three rows of the grid. Rosenqvist, driving for Meyer Shank Racing, claimed his first IndyCar pole position with a lap time of 1:06.0172. This achievement marked MSR’s inaugural pole position in the series and showcased the promising partnership between Rosenqvist and his new team. Will Power came incredibly close to taking pole position, finishing just 0.004 seconds behind Rosenqvist. Power’s teammate, Josef Newgarden, secured the third-fastest time, continuing his strong start to the 2024 season. Colton Herta and Marcus Ericsson, both from the Andretti team, secured the fourth and fifth starting positions respectively. Alex Palou completed the Fast Six, providing him with an opportunity to build on his previous championship success. Unfortunately, Christian Lundgaard narrowly missed out on advancing to the final round, finishing 0.019 seconds below the cut line and starting from seventh position. Kyle Kirkwood, who had shown promise in practice, failed to progress due to difficulties finding a clear track during his qualifying run. Alexander Rossi expressed disappointment with his performance, citing a lack of pace in his Arrow McLaren Chevy. He did not advance past the first round and will start from 13th position. Pato O’Ward also missed out on advancing to the next round by a small margin and will start on the outside of row seven. Theo Pourchaire, making his IndyCar debut, secured the 22nd starting position while substituting for David Malukas. As the reigning F2 champion, Pourchaire aims to avoid any incidents during Sunday’s race, with any gained positions serving as a bonus. The 85-lap event will commence just after noon Pacific Time, promising an exciting race along the scenic shoreline streets near Los Angeles.
