Do not anticipate the presence of New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner in Las Vegas in the near future.
Why? Well, let me pose a question: what is more abundant per person in Las Vegas compared to any other city in the United States?
Compulsive gamblers?
Yes, that is true, but that is not the answer I was seeking.
Prostitutes,
No, that is not it. Well, maybe… but still not the answer.
Elvis Impersonators.
Yes, but no. The answer I was seeking was magicians.
I am uncertain if there are a greater number of magicians per person in Vegas compared to other places, but it certainly sounds plausible, doesn’t it? And it was a magician who convinced Sauce to limit his trips to Sin City.
Gardner was in town for the Super Bowl (not as a player, obviously), and shared his encounter with a mind-boggling magic trick that made him swear off Vegas.
“While I was in Vegas, someone performed a card trick on me, and I am absolutely certain that the cards were in my hands. However, at the end, he said ‘now it’s a block of glass; move your hand,’ and instead of the cards, I found a block of glass in my hands. I have no intention of returning to Vegas.”
Initially, Gardner did not disclose the identity of the magician. However, it is clear that it was not the infamous Chris Angel, as Gardner did not mention the trick being executed by an obnoxious individual wearing an Ed Hardy shirt.
Eventually, the magician in question came forward. It was Carl Michael, who claimed to have performed at the NFLPA’s party.
He even had a photograph with Gardner, presumably taken before the trick was performed.
“Your reaction was incredible!” Michael wrote.
This card trick that Michael pulled off must have been truly remarkable. I am certain that there was more to it than simply transforming cards into a block of glass, as Sauce described.
I am confident that Sauce will return to Sin City. After all, what will he do if the Jets face the Raiders? However, do not expect to see him exploring the city and attending a Penn & Teller show or anything of that sort.
