Amidst rumors of a potential return to the F1 grid, people have been reflecting on Vettel’s past races and championships to support his comeback to the top of motorsport. However, in discussions about world championships or race victories, the name of Fernando Alonso constantly arises as Vettel’s toughest rival in F1.
Vettel has shared the track with racing legends like Alonso, Schumacher, and many others. But during his dominance in the early 2010s, only one name, Fernando Alonso, was able to keep up with him. Alonso was striving to secure his third title by teaming up with [TEAM NAME]. Meanwhile, Vettel had the support of [TEAM NAME] and [TEAM NAME], who helped him clinch the championship by the narrowest of margins ahead of Alonso.
The German and Alonso had numerous battles, all characterized by the utmost sportsmanship.
The 36-year-old reflects on his clashes with the former two-time champion and acknowledges him as an extremely competitive adversary. He further states that Alonso has been his toughest rival to date, praising his ability to always be ready to seize an opportunity and give him a serious challenge.
The former four-time champion has secured his place among the F1 greats, some of whom he raced alongside until 2022. However, when it comes to bestowing the title of the greatest driver ever, Vettel overlooks Alonso.
When asked about the greatest driver on his list, Vettel mentions two names whom he holds in equal regard.
The 36-year-old identifies Schumacher and Hamilton as the greatest of all time. He then supports his choice by explaining that his fellow German was his idol and hero while growing up. On the other hand, the Englishman boasts the best overall statistics, being a centurion and sharing the number of championships won with Schumacher.
Additionally, there have been rumors of Vettel returning to the F1 grid with [TEAM NAME], much like his idol. However, given the current circumstances, this move is highly unlikely. The silly season is still ongoing, and given the unpredictable nature of the sport, anything can happen.
