Lewis Hamilton has been plying his trade with Mercedes since 2013. The former seven-time world champion will be seen representing the red of Ferrari from 2025 onwards. This unprecedented deal has completely changed the landscape of the sport, and while there has been a lot of positivity surrounding it, ex-F1 driver Fabian Vettel, brother of Sebastian Vettel, has expressed his belief that Hamilton and Ferrari are not a good fit for each other.
Fabian Vettel believes that Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari have contrasting personalities. He firmly believes that cracks will begin to appear in their relationship starting next year, which could have catastrophic consequences for both parties. In an interview with Sky Sports, Fabian stated, “The combination of Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton will not work.” He even referred to the tumultuous time his brother Sebastian had with Ferrari after joining from Red Bull.
Sebastian’s brother’s warning about the Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari combination not working out comes as Hamilton himself joins the Italian team from 2025 onwards with the intention of securing his record-breaking eighth world championship. Hamilton firmly believes that Ferrari, under the leadership of , can produce cars capable of winning championships in the coming years.
However, considering that Ferrari has not won a World Drivers’ Championship title since 2007, it is a significant gamble for the 39-year-old. While the team has shown signs of improvement under Vasseur, they were nowhere near the dominant Red Bull team last year.
The Milton-Keynes-based team has been dominating its competition under the current regulations. Even if Ferrari is able to produce a competitive car from next year onwards, Lewis Hamilton will face a tough challenge going up against the highly skilled Charles Leclerc, who is considered one of the top drivers on the grid.
