Chiefs Quarterback’s Father Arrested Before Super Bowl
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, just one week before the Super Bowl. Online records from Smith County reveal that Mahomes Sr. was taken into custody on February 3 on suspicion of “driving while intoxicated, third or more.” He was later released on a $10,000 bond.
Details surrounding Mahomes Sr.’s arrest emerged on February 5. According to a police affidavit obtained by The Kansas City Star, Mahomes Sr. had an open beer in his vehicle when he was pulled over for driving slower than other traffic. The car’s registration was also found to be expired. The affidavit states that Mahomes Sr. admitted to drinking a few beers before driving and an open can of Coors Light was discovered in the center console.
The officer conducted a field sobriety test, which revealed 11 clues of impairment. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officer believed that Mahomes Sr. was operating a motor vehicle while impaired. As a result, the 53-year-old former Major League Baseball player is facing a felony charge. If convicted, he could face a $10,000 fine, 2 to 10 years in prison, and a loss of his driver’s license for up to two years.
Despite the arrest, Mahomes Sr. is expected to be present at Allegiant Stadium to watch the Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. His daughter-in-law, Brittany Mahomes, and his grandchildren, Sterling and Bronze, have already arrived in Las Vegas for the game. Mahomes’ mother, Randi Martin, will also be in attendance. She shares two sons with Mahomes Sr. and has a daughter from a subsequent relationship.
On Instagram, Mahomes’ mother shared an emotional message to her son, expressing her pride and admiration for his hard work and dedication. She declared her love for him and encouraged him to enjoy every moment of the Super Bowl.
It seems that Mahomes Sr. has a sense of humor, as evidenced by a post shared on social media showing him being funny.
PATRICK MAHOMES’ FATHER EXCITED FOR FOURTH SUPER BOWL APPEARANCE
In a recent interview, Patrick Mahomes Sr. expressed his excitement for his son’s upcoming fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years. He stated, “I’m very excited, man. Going back to another Super Bowl is more than anybody could even imagine.” Mahomes Sr. also revealed that his son has no plans of stopping anytime soon, as they are aiming for not just one, but multiple Super Bowl victories.
Mahomes himself addressed reporters for Media Day in Las Vegas, just one day after his father’s release from county jail. Despite the circumstances, the 28-year-old quarterback remained focused on the upcoming game and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be back on the big stage. He acknowledged the importance of being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and having Andy Reid as his coach and Travis Kelce as his tight end.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to become the first team in 20 years to win back-to-back Super Bowls. However, Mahomes is not letting the pressure get to him. He believes that as long as he plays with no regrets and gives his all on the field, he can feel at ease regardless of the outcome against the San Francisco 49ers.
