The current lineup of Gulfstream aircraft consists of seven different models, along with a special missions variant. The range begins with the G280 and reaches its pinnacle with the G800. However, it is the G700 that is touted by its manufacturer as the swiftest aircraft in today’s fleet.
This particular plane was introduced into service in 2019 and is currently equipped with twin Rolls-Royce engines, enabling it to achieve top speeds of Mach 0.935 (717 mph/1,155 kph). It boasts a maximum range of 8,919 miles (14,353 km) and offers a “spacious cabin” that surpasses all others in the business aviation sector.
The interior of the aircraft can be customized in various ways. In its most luxurious configuration, the G700 can accommodate up to five distinct living areas, including an ultra gallery and a grand suite complete with a shower. Alternatively, it can be set up for more practical purposes, with the capability to carry up to 19 passengers and accommodate 13 individuals for sleeping arrangements.
Regardless of the chosen configuration, the cabin is flooded with natural light through a total of 20 windows. The air inside is constantly refreshed every two to three minutes and is plasma-ionized. Additionally, passengers have access to the plane’s onboard Wi-Fi system.
Over the course of its existence, this aircraft has set numerous speed records for city-pair travel, signifying its ability to traverse between two destinations at remarkable speeds. This week, the G700 surpassed the milestone of 50 such records.
This week also marks the Singapore Airshow, where the G700 will be showcased as one of Gulfstream’s standout aircraft. One member of this aircraft family embarked on a journey from Los Angeles to Singapore, taking a longer route and breaking records 50 and 51 in the process.
The initial leg of this trip involved flying from LA to Nice, France, covering a distance of 5,980 miles. The duration of this leg was 10 hours and 13 minutes, with an average speed of Mach 0.90.
Following the stop in Nice, the plane continued its journey towards Singapore, covering a distance of 6,621 miles (10,656 km). This leg was completed in just 11 hours and 30 minutes, maintaining the same average speed as before.
Gulfstream claims that both flights were carbon neutral, although they did not provide specific details regarding the methods used (SAF is likely involved). Furthermore, there is no mention of an independent organization verifying these flights as record-breaking.
Of course, such a fast and luxurious mode of transportation comes with a hefty price tag. In its most basic configuration, the G700 is priced at $75 million, making it one of the most expensive planes in its class.
