The Golden State Warriors dynasty may be coming to an end as the team has struggled throughout the 2023-24 NBA season. Despite Stephen Curry’s outstanding performance, the rest of the roster has been unable to keep up, resulting in the Warriors being outside of the playoff race. Injuries and Draymond Green’s suspension have also contributed to their decline. One significant factor is the decline of Klay Thompson, who appears to be a mere shadow of his former self on the court. Thompson has been in a slump for most of the season and was even benched in a recent win against the Brooklyn Nets. However, head coach Steve Kerr still believes in Thompson and considers him an integral part of the team’s identity on both offense and defense. Kerr acknowledges that the circumstances have changed and that Thompson and the team must adapt to these new challenges. Kerr’s defense of Thompson suggests that the benching was merely a strategic decision for that particular game. Thompson is still recognized as a formidable shooter who can stretch defenses thin when he is in rhythm. However, the problem is that those nights have been few and far between. As Thompson enters free agency, his future with the Warriors may be uncertain if his poor performance persists.
