Now, it appears that I am requesting a calmer approach for the upcoming Audi S3 hatchback and sedan facelift. Fortunately, the automaker based in Ingolstadt, which is still in the testing phase for the S3 refresh, claims that there are ten improvements on the way – and those eye-catching orange wraps are not included. Instead, they are part of the camouflage setup, which is an area where Audi tends to go overboard to compensate for its understated model designs.
Moving on, the updated Audi S3, complete with its shiny camouflage, was sent to tackle the challenging roads around Salalah in Oman, including steep mountain passes. From there, the German company is now focusing on its numerous technical innovations. This teaser highlights the latest measures they have taken to enhance the driving dynamics of the new S3 siblings.
The most significant improvement is also the most apparent. The upcoming Audi S3 hatchback and sedan will boast 333 ps and 420 Nm, equivalent to 328 hp and 310 lb-ft, which is an increase of 23 ps and 20 Nm (or 23 hp and 15 lb-ft) compared to the previous model year. As a result, the new S3 matches the Golf R 333 special edition, the most expensive Volkswagen Golf ever. However, this S3 is the regular version and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in just 4.7 seconds, reaching a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 kph).
The 2.0-liter TFSI engine has also undergone optimized tuning, resulting in a more immediate power delivery thanks to the preloaded turbocharger. Additionally, the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission now offers faster gear shifts under full load. Similar to the Audi RS 3, the new S3 now features fully variable torque distribution between the rear wheels, thanks to the inclusion of a torque splitter.
The Audi drive select mode introduces a new dynamic plus mode, which adjusts the settings for the torque splitter, transmission, and engine. This mode also enhances throttle response, providing an increased and more engaging driving experience. Furthermore, the S3 benefits from a modified front axle with double the camber at the front, making it more agile. Additionally, it comes equipped with standard progressive steering and upgraded, more powerful brakes.
Lastly, the next-generation electronic stabilization control system is incorporated into the S3, along with two new tire options – performance or sporty tires from Falken – for the 19-inch wheels with 235/35 dimensions.
