In the previous season, the Indianapolis Colts concluded with a record of 9-8 and placed third in the NFC South. They ranked 10th among the 16 teams in the AFC. Only the top seven teams qualify for the postseason. The Colts’ most recent playoff victory was in 2019 when they defeated the Houston Texans.
The team has encountered difficulties in achieving success in the playoffs since then. However, they did acquire their franchise quarterback, Anthony Richardson, through the draft last year. Unfortunately, Richardson suffered a shoulder injury and was only able to participate in four games. If the Colts wish to build upon their performance in 2023, they will need to re-sign several key players during the offseason. It is worth noting that Richardson has not yet completed a full season. If the team can retain the right players, their potential to become a dominant force is immense. NFL free agency will commence on March 13 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
The Indianapolis Colts have a number of free agents this offseason, leading to speculation about which players will stay and which will depart. This topic is discussed on the Horseshoe Huddle Podcast, hosted by Andrew Moore and Dwallster Drake. For more information, visit the link: [insert link].
1. Kenny Moore II – Cornerback
Kenny Moore II, a cornerback standing at five-foot-nine, went undrafted from Valdosta State in 2017. Although he initially signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent, he eventually found his way to Indianapolis. As a rookie, Moore played in all 16 games and started in five of them. Since then, the 28-year-old has consistently started in double-digit games each season with the Colts. In 2020, Moore signed a four-year contract extension worth $33 million. He is now due for another contract this offseason. In 2023, Moore, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl once, recorded 93 tackles, three interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. His consistent performance makes him an important player for the Colts, and it is likely that the team will prioritize re-signing him.
2. Michael Pittman Jr. – Wide Receiver
Despite not having their starting quarterback for a significant portion of the season, the Colts’ skill position players made significant contributions. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew played in all 17 games and started in 13 of them. His primary target was fourth-year wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who had a breakout season. Pittman achieved career-high statistics with 109 catches, 1,152 receiving yards, and an average of 72.0 yards per game. In 2023, Pittman was in the final year of his rookie contract. He is a crucial component of the Colts’ offense and someone the team should prioritize re-signing this offseason. Fortunately, the Colts have the fifth-highest salary cap space for 2024, with $71.2 million available.

3. Julian Blackmon – S
In spite of sustaining an injury on Christmas Eve, safety Julian Blackmon had a remarkable season for the Colts in 2023. According to his general manager Chris Ballard, Blackmon’s performance was exceptional, and the team felt his absence deeply. Although he was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury, the 26-year-old managed to participate and start in 15 out of the team’s 17 games in 2023. This season proved to be a breakthrough for Blackmon, as he achieved career-best numbers in interceptions (4), pass deflections (8), and tackles (88). Having completed the final year of his rookie contract after being drafted in 2020, Blackmon is undoubtedly deserving of an extension during this offseason.
