Thursday was a significant day in Los Angeles, as the statue of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend and cultural icon Kobe Bryant was revealed. It’s hard to believe that it has been more than four years since the tragic passing of one of our beloved childhood heroes in a helicopter accident in 2020. Now, his memory will be forever immortalized.
The unveiling of Kobe’s statue took place on February 9, 2024. The date holds significance as it represents the two numbers Kobe Bryant wore during his time with the Lakers, 8 and 24. It would have been a perfect day if the Lakers hadn’t lost to the Nuggets.
However, not everyone is pleased with the statue and the chosen pose of Kobe Bryant. Some individuals find it unattractive.
Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, had a message for those who criticize the statue. She stated, “For the record, Kobe picked the pose you’re about to see. So if anybody has any issue with it, tough luck.”
Personally, I find the pose to be quite impressive, and the craftsmanship of the statue is remarkable.
Kobe Bryant dedicated his entire career to the city of Los Angeles from 1996 to 2016. His list of accomplishments is extensive, including 18 All-Star team selections, five championships, two finals MVP awards, one regular season MVP award, and 15 All-NBA selections.
For many, Kobe Bryant represented more than just his achievements. People admired his unmatched competitive spirit and his unwavering loyalty to Los Angeles, even during the challenging years in the mid-2000s and towards the end of his career.
Kobe Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash while en route to a basketball game at Bryant’s facility.
