After accumulating runs diligently in the Ranji Trophy, Sarfaraz finally received the opportunity to debut in Test cricket during the third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Thursday (February 15).
Sarfaraz entered the field to bat after captain Rohit Sharma’s departure. Initially, he had a slow start but soon picked up the pace, reaching his half-century in just 48 balls.
He was approaching his first Test century, but unfortunately, that did not materialize. In the 82nd over, Ravindra Jadeja hit the ball towards mid-on off James Anderson, prompting the all-rounder to call for a single but stop midway.
However, since Sarfaraz was already out of the crease and heading towards the other end, he had to sacrifice his wicket as Mark Wood collected the ball and swiftly aimed for the stumps. Captain Sharma expressed his frustration by throwing off his cap.
Rohit Sharma was displeased with Sarfaraz Khan’s runout, as Jadeja displayed a selfish attitude.
Got out in an unfortunate manner, but nevertheless played beautifully. It was impressive to witness a batsman utilizing the depth of the crease against spin.
Sarfaraz achieved a score of 62 runs from 66 deliveries, including nine boundaries and a six. Jadeja, on the other hand, soon completed his century (110 not out from 212 balls).
