Maverick Vinales surpassed Jorge Martin’s record lap during practice to secure the top position for the MotoGP races at the Circuit of the Americas this weekend. The Aprilia rider achieved a remarkable time of 2:00.864s, putting him three-tenths ahead of the impressive newcomer Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez of Gresini Ducati. Acosta will start in the front row for both the Sprint and main race, as his time was over a second faster than the next KTM bike, while Marquez leads the Ducati team. Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini of Ducati completed the top five, with Jorge Martin, the current points leader, settling for sixth place despite his outstanding performance in earlier practice sessions. Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia had a late crash but managed to secure seventh place, followed by Fabio Di Gianantonio and Franco Morbidelli to complete the third row of the grid. Marco Bezzechi, despite a challenging start to the season, secured a top-10 start for the VR46 team. Jack Miller and Alex Marquez finished in 11th and 12th place respectively in the Q1 session. Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveria of Trackhouse Aprilla narrowly missed out on Q2, as did Yamaha. However, Alex Rins surprised everyone by outperforming his teammate Fabio Quartararo and securing 15th place, while Quartararo suffered a late fall in the closing moments of the session. Brad Binder had an unfortunate afternoon, crashing on his first run and ending up in 17th place on the starting grid. Augusto Fernandez of GasGas KTM qualified in 18th place, facing a challenging weekend overall. Johann Zarco once again emerged as the leading Honda rider, with Joan Mir, the 2020 World Champion, following closely behind. Takaaki Nakagami and Luca Marini completed the grid.
