Customers looking for an electric wagon with the same size as the Passat Variant now have the option of the ID.7 Tourer. This model offers more legroom and luggage space compared to the sedan. However, the zero-emission wagon falls behind in terms of cargo capacity, with 605 and 1,714 liters (21.4 and 60.5 cubic feet) in European markets.
The ID.7 Tourer is slightly longer than its combustion-engined counterpart and takes inspiration from the ID. Space Vizzion concept. The concept boasted impressive numbers such as an 82-kilowatt hour battery, a range of 560 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle, a drag coefficient of 0.24, and up to 265 kW (355 horsepower) from its two motors.
The series-production model of the ID.7 Tourer offers even more. Volkswagen claims an 86-kilowatt hour battery and fast charging at up to 200 kilowatts. The estimated range in the WLTP test cycle is up to 685 kilometers. Unfortunately, there is no EPA estimate available, suggesting that this model may not be intended for the US market. However, if it were, the range would be around 426 miles.
Like the sedan version, the ID.7 Tourer will be available with two battery options. The Pro model comes with a 77-kWh battery and a direct-current charging speed of 175 kW. Later on, the Pro S will be introduced with an 86-kWh battery.
In terms of power and performance, the ID.7 Tourer is based on the MEB platform and is rear-wheel drive. Acceleration estimates for the rear-drive model have not been provided by Volkswagen. However, due to its slightly heavier weight, it is expected to be slightly slower than the sedan, which has a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 6.5 seconds.
The ID.7 Tourer is equipped with a 282-horsepower electric motor and 406 pound-feet (550 Nm) of torque, which is more powerful than the Passat Variant. The interior of the ID.7 Tourer shares some similarities with the Passat Variant, including a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a gear selector on the right side of the steering column.
Production of the ID.7 Tourer will take place at the Emden plant, alongside the ID.7 sedan and ID.4 crossover. It will also be available in right-hand drive for the British market. Pricing details will be announced soon.
