Lewis Hamilton found himself in a perilous situation with Logan Sargeant during yesterday’s practice at the Jeddah Corcniche F1 circuit. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix kicked off with all 20 cars taking to the track in full force. However, for the former seven-time world champion, the Free Practice 2 session turned out to be one he would rather forget, resulting in a fine of 15000 euros.
In the Free Practice 2 session at the Jeddah Corniche F1 circuit, the drivers were pushing the limits at a specific time. It was during this moment that Lewis Hamilton encountered a dangerous situation. Hamilton, who was on a slow lap, was moving towards the center at Turn 11 to make way for Ferrari’s competitor. Unfortunately, Mercedes failed to inform Hamilton that Williams was on a fast lap. With Turn 11 being a blind corner, Hamilton obstructed Sargeant, forcing the American driver to abruptly brake and take evasive action to avoid a potentially catastrophic crash.
Following the session, the FIA released a detailed report on the incident, which stated:
“While Lewis Hamilton has been fined 15000 euros for his actions during the FP2 Logan Sargeant incident, it was an overall challenging day for him and his team. Russell, on the other hand, had an impressive performance, finishing the FP2 session in second place behind Aston Martin’s competitor.”
Russell achieved a lap time of 1.29.057, securing a higher position than Hamilton, who finished in eighth place with a time of 1.29.504.
Reflecting on his performance after the session, Hamilton expressed:
“During the ongoing 2024 F1 season, Lewis Hamilton has consistently been outperformed by his teammate in every aspect. It will be intriguing to see how he rebounds from the upcoming Saudi Arabian GP qualifying session onwards.”
As the 2024 F1 season progresses, Hamilton’s ability to bounce back from his teammate’s dominance will undoubtedly be captivating.
