The father of Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was taken into custody on Saturday evening for driving under the influence. The burning question now is whether Mahomes Sr. will be able to make it to the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Mahomes Sr., who used to be a professional baseball player, was arrested in Tyler, Texas after being pulled over for drunk driving.
After spending the night in jail, Mahomes Sr. was released on Sunday after posting bail.
This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has been arrested for this offense, so the severity of the charge has been elevated from a misdemeanor to a felony. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging from 2 to 10 years.
When asked about his father’s arrest during a media event before the Super Bowl, NFL star Mahomes chose to keep his response brief and personal. He stated, “It’s a family matter, so I’ll keep it within the family. That’s all I have to say.”

In 2018, Mahomes Sr. was charged with his second DWI and served a 40-day jail sentence.

Since Mahomes Sr.’s arrest on Saturday, one question has been on everyone’s mind: Will he be able to attend the Super Bowl on Sunday?
Despite facing legal trouble, the 53-year-old is reportedly allowed to attend the Super Bowl match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers on February 11.
His bond conditions do not restrict him from traveling out of state, so Mahomes Sr. can make his way to Las Vegas, Nevada to support his son in his third Super Bowl appearance.
However, it remains uncertain whether Mahomes Jr. will actually want his father present at the game, as his presence could potentially be a significant distraction.
The Kansas City Chiefs will be going head-to-head against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11.
