Wisconsin basketball fans were not particularly impressed by the team’s victory over Maryland. The Badgers were in desperate need of a win and managed to narrowly defeat the Terrapins, bringing their overall record to 18-9 and 2-5 in their last seven games.
Currently, Wisconsin is experiencing one of the most humiliating slumps in recent college basketball history. Just three weeks ago, Greg Gard and his team were ranked sixth in the nation. However, they have since lost their ranking and are now fighting to stay afloat.
This situation is truly astonishing and quite embarrassing. Despite the much-needed win on Tuesday night, fans were not entirely satisfied with the performance on the court. Wisconsin’s victory over one of the weakest teams in the Big Ten did not elicit much enthusiasm.
Following the 74-70 win, fans took to social media to express their thoughts. While some were happy to finally secure a victory, many remained unenthusiastic. It is understandable that fans were not impressed by the win, considering the circumstances. Should Wisconsin fans be expected to celebrate a victory over a team as weak as Maryland?
The fact that the Badgers managed to secure a win is almost miraculous. It was only through a late three-pointer from Max Klesmit and multiple successful free throws that they were able to defeat the subpar Terrapins. There is little reason for anyone to be pleased with this outcome, including myself.
Although it is certainly a relief to end the losing streak and slow down the decline, Tuesday night’s game could easily have resulted in a loss. Wisconsin’s fans should consider themselves fortunate that this was not the case.
Regardless, Gard must quickly find a solution to the team’s issues, as they still have upcoming games against Indiana, Illinois, Rutgers, and Purdue. It could potentially be a brutal stretch of games. I would love to hear your thoughts on the current state of Wisconsin basketball. Please reach out to me at David.Hookstead@.
