Wisconsin basketball supporters are in a state of widespread rebellion following their defeat to Iowa. The Badgers had control of the game against the Hawkeyes for significant portions of the match on Saturday. However, Greg Gard and his team once again squandered their advantage and lost in overtime with a score of 88-86. Wisconsin’s record now stands at 17-9, with only one victory in their last six games. Fans are extremely angry, and rightfully so. There is no justification for the team’s current poor performance.
On Saturday, frustrations reached a boiling point on social media platforms. Numerous individuals expressed their discontent on X and Instagram, and I was among them. Take a look at some of the reactions below, and feel free to share your thoughts with me at David.Hookstead@The reactions on Instagram mirrored those on X. The comments section of the final score announcement was filled with vitriol.
At this juncture, I am truly at a loss for answers. Just a few weeks ago, the Badgers were ranked sixth in the nation. Since their loss to Nebraska, where they squandered an 18-point lead in the second half, it has been nothing short of a catastrophe. The team’s current 1-5 slide is both repulsive and infuriating. Greg Gard, who was once considered a potential candidate for a top seed, now finds himself under intense scrutiny.
He has no one to blame but himself. The team’s poor shot selection and lackluster defense ultimately fall on the shoulders of the coach. Wisconsin fans are unleashing their fury on the team following their defeat to Iowa. (Photo by Keith Gillett/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)
Next on the schedule is a game against Maryland on Tuesday night. If the Badgers lose that one, the clamor against Greg Gard will reach deafening levels. Share your thoughts on the state of Wisconsin basketball with me at David.Hookstead@
