Honda has recently revealed its plans to introduce the very first CR-V powered by hydrogen fuel cells later this year, and we now have our initial glimpse of it.
Fuel-cell automobiles are still quite uncommon, with only a limited selection of models available, such as the Hyundai Nexo or Toyota Mirai. The CR-V FCEV will distinguish itself from other fuel-cell vehicles by also incorporating a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, making it technically a plug-in hybrid.
This feature will undoubtedly alleviate the problem of limited hydrogen refueling stations, as the CR-V FCEV will have the ability to travel using the energy stored in the battery. The exact electric range, however, has yet to be disclosed.
Honda has confirmed that the fuel cell system for the CR-V will be manufactured in Michigan, and production has already commenced.
