Saad Tramboo and Hamad Tramboo recently appeared on Shark Tank India and secured a ₹30 Lakh investment for a 4% stake in their startup, Tramboo Sports. The startup focuses on manufacturing cricket bats using Kashmir Willow and claims to produce the finest bats of this kind, asserting that they face no competition. The duo further emphasized that their unique bat-making process sets them apart from local competitors, resulting in a superior product.
In response to the Tramboo brothers’ claims, the Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association of Kashmir has filed a lawsuit against Tramboo Sports and Sony Pictures. According to a spokesperson, they allege that the show has deceived the public and damaged the reputation of local bat manufacturers.
The CBMAK has already served legal notices to both companies, demanding compensation of ₹500 crores. They argue that this compensation is necessary to account for the mental distress, damages, and losses suffered by the CBMAK and its manufacturers. Additionally, they criticize Sony for inadequate research and presenting misleading information.
Cricket bat manufacturing has flourished in India, considering the sport’s immense popularity in the country. The introduction of cricket to India dates back to the 1800s, with North India emerging as a major manufacturing hub. One of India’s largest bat manufacturers, Sanspareils Greenlands (SG), is located in Meerut and produces both Kashmir and English Willow Bats.
Given that the export of Kashmir Willow cleft is prohibited, Meerut has become a prominent center for bat production. The wood used in these bats is a close relative of English Willow and is favored by players worldwide.
While batters generally prefer English Willow bats due to their lighter weight, Kashmir Willow bats offer a more affordable alternative.
