Imagine being a college basketball player and having your jersey pulled by a spectator sitting courtside. Now picture yourself swiping at their hand, only to realize that the fan in question is none other than the renowned actor Morgan Freeman.
Filled with embarrassment, Johni Broome, a key player for the Auburn Tigers (18-4), found himself in this unfortunate encounter with Freeman. Despite the incident, Auburn (ranked No. 16) and Broome managed to secure a conference victory over Ole Miss (18-4) on Saturday, with an impressive second-half performance that led to a final score of 91-77.
It did appear that the Oscar-winning actor made a grab for Broome’s jersey as the player backed into the seats near the court. Freeman held on firmly, and Broome’s swipe had some force behind it.
Now it’s up to you to decide: was Broome’s initial reaction justified? Share your thoughts at alejandro.avila@.
Initially, the encounter seemed confrontational. However, Broome quickly regained his composure and followed up his small swipe with an apology.
After the game, Broome commented on the incident, stating, “I initially thought it was an Ole Miss fan grabbing my jersey and holding onto me. When I saw who it was, I realized I’m a big movie fan… I was genuinely shocked and apologetic.”
Apart from the uncomfortable incident involving Freeman, Broome delivered an outstanding performance. The junior forward came close to achieving a triple-double, contributing 15 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
For a brief moment, Morgan Freeman was the cause of Broome’s frustration.
