In America, the F-Series from the Blue Oval was the top-selling nameplate with nearly 751k units. Following closely behind were the Chevy Silverado series with 543k deliveries and Ram’s P/U models with almost 445k. The top ten positions, excluding the Camry in eighth place, were dominated by high-riders such as the GMC Sierra, Toyota RAV4, Tesla Model Y, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
It’s not surprising that some of these vehicles are going beyond their intended purposes. We’ve seen CUVs transformed into mobile homes and pickup trucks tearing up the quarter-mile dragstrip. These vehicles are so impressive that they are not afraid to challenge traditional sports cars. But you don’t have to take our word for it, we have a perfect example to show you.
The Drag Racing and Car Stuff YouTube channel features a videographer who has a fondness for Bradenton Motorsports Park and quick pickup trucks. The latest video focuses on an aggressive Chevrolet Silverado single cab that is causing chaos on the racetrack, regardless of its appearance on small ‘steelies.’
During the daytime, the Silverado faced off against a well-known opponent, the Chevrolet Corvette. Unfortunately for the Corvette, it was an older model from the mid to late 2000s, and the fast Chevy truck easily defeated it with a time of 11.97 seconds compared to the Corvette’s 12.64 seconds.
But the Silverado didn’t stop there. Later in the night, it took on a contemporary Toyota GR Supra. The race between the black Silverado and the blue GR Supra was intense, with both vehicles neck and neck for most of the race. In the end, it was the track’s lighting system that determined the winner.
While pickup trucks may not be a common sight at the local dragstrip, they can still put on a great show. This videographer has captured several exciting races in recent months, and we’ve included a couple more videos for your enjoyment. Even if they occasionally lose, these trucks always provide an entertaining spectacle.
