A frightening incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. During the Clippers’ game against the Pistons, Norman Powell, a guard for the Clippers, fell to the ground after unintentionally being elbowed in the face by Jalen Duren, the Pistons’ center.
Powell, who is 30 years old, was bleeding profusely and received immediate assistance from trainers.
Here is the video footage of the incident, but be warned, it may be disturbing:
After a few minutes, Powell was able to be helped off the court and taken to the locker room, his face concealed by a towel. However, he appeared to be moving cautiously as he made his way to the locker room.
Fortunately, the situation was not as severe as it initially appeared.
According to Clippers head coach Ty Lue, Powell received stitches for his facial injury but will ultimately be okay.
“I’m resilient like that,” Powell later shared with the media, sporting a bandage on his face.
Based on his condition, Powell may not have to sit out for an extended period of time, if at all. However, he will likely have to pass concussion tests before he can return to the court.
Despite Powell’s absence in the final five minutes of the game, the Clippers managed to secure a victory over the struggling Pistons with a score of 112-106. Paul George was the standout performer, contributing 33 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Kawhi Leonard also had an impressive performance, finishing with 24 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
With this win, the Clippers surpassed the Oklahoma City Thunder to claim the second seed in the Western Conference. The battle for the top spot in the West has been intense for the past few weeks, with four teams separated by just one game.
On the other hand, the Pistons, who currently possess the worst record in the league at 8-44, are simply grateful for the opportunity to compete in the NBA.
