Dustin Poirier will not underestimate Max Holloway’s chances of upsetting Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Gaethje, who holds the BMF title, will defend it against former featherweight champion Holloway on April 13 in Las Vegas. This is the same belt that Gaethje won by knocking out Poirier at UFC 291. Despite being considered the underdog, Holloway has Poirier’s support. Poirier, who has fought both fighters twice, believes Holloway has the skills to defeat Gaethje. Poirier respects both fighters but would bet on Holloway due to his size, striking ability, timing, range, and durability.
Poirier has faced Gaethje twice, winning by knockout in 2018 but losing in their rematch in July 2019. He has also fought Holloway twice, submitting him in 2012 and defeating him in a memorable Fight of the Night battle to claim the interim lightweight title in 2019. Poirier’s next challenge will be against rising contender Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 on March 9 in Miami.
