Promoter Frank Warren responded to critics of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who continue to question his eye injury and doubt his bravery in facing undefeated IBF/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Warren finds it “pathetic” that people question Fury’s courage to take on Usyk, pointing out that he has previously fought Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder, proving his willingness to face tough opponents.
Fury’s eye injury, which some fans believe he caused himself, has resulted in the postponement of his fight against Usyk until May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, giving him more time to prepare.
Some believe that Fury, who is 35 years old and has not looked sharp since his third fight with Wilder in 2021, needs additional time due to rumors of him struggling in training camp against his sparring partners.
The leaked video of Fury’s eye injury, where he has his left arm wrapped around his opponent’s neck while striking him with his free hand, appears concerning and reinforces the belief that Fury’s skills have declined with age.
Regarding Fury’s injury and the postponement of his fight against Usyk, promoter Frank Warren stated, “He worked hard in training camp [before the postponement], and that will benefit him because he was peaking. Now he needs to take some time off and wind down a bit.”
Warren expressed his frustration with those who doubt Fury, reminding them of his past accomplishments, such as fighting for a world title in Germany against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. He believes that professional fighters should know better than to criticize and doubt Fury.
Warren also praised Fury’s performance in his last fight against Francis Ngannou, stating that despite not being at his best, Fury came out victorious in a fight that many expected to be easy for Ngannou, who was a former UFC champion.
