Players who have joined LIV Golf appear to be satisfied with their decision, but if there is one thing worth complaining about, it’s the performance of LIV’s social media team. The main purpose of LIV’s social media platforms is to promote its players and the brand itself, yet they seem to be falling short. Harold Varner III recently expressed his dissatisfaction with a post from LIV’s X account, previously known as Twitter, which is just the latest example of the struggles faced by the social media team.
In late January, LIV shared a graphic displaying its team rosters for 2024, but unfortunately misspelled Jon Rahm’s name. Rahm is undoubtedly the biggest signing for LIV so far, making it even more important for the social media team to ensure his name was spelled correctly, which they failed to do.
If we go back to November, Brooks Koepka expressed frustration with LIV for taking too long to release the 2024 schedule through Instagram comments.
Now, Varner has publicly criticized LIV’s X account after shooting an opening round of 63 in Las Vegas on Thursday. Varner finished last in LIV’s season opener in Mexico a week ago, so the social media team decided to create a graphic highlighting his comeback. However, it was the caption of ‘Golf. It’s a crazy game’ that understandably upset Varner.
To be fair to LIV, it is quite remarkable that Varner went from finishing last in a tournament just five days prior to being tied for the lead after the first day in Vegas. The social media team wouldn’t have been doing their job properly if they didn’t highlight his impressive turnaround. However, it is somewhat out of touch to describe Varner’s achievement as “crazy” when he has previously won both a European Tour event and a LIV tournament.
Varner has been refreshingly honest about his decision to join LIV, stating that it was primarily driven by financial reasons. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he is expressing his dissatisfaction with the social media team at the moment.
