A man named Isaiah Walker, recently released from prison in Cochise, Arizona, found himself in need of transportation to get back home. With no other options available, he came across a truck filled with brand-new Chevy Corvettes that were being delivered to their buyers. Surprisingly, Walker had no interest in the cars themselves.
Unfortunately, Walker’s actions took a criminal turn. He is now facing charges of assaulting and robbing the truck driver, as well as 11 counts of theft related to the stolen vehicles. According to the police, the incident began with a conversation between Walker and the driver at the Willcox Loves Truck Stop. However, the situation quickly escalated when Walker physically attacked the driver and took control of the truck.
As Walker made his escape, driving north, a deputy from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office spotted the stolen semi-truck and attempted to pull it over on Ford Grant Road. Despite the deputy’s efforts, Walker refused to stop and began driving recklessly, causing other vehicles to swerve off the road. Eventually, Walker finally pulled over near County Line Road and was apprehended by the police.
When questioned about his motives, Walker explained that he simply wanted to get home and had no other means of transportation available to him. Surprisingly, he showed no interest in the valuable sports cars he had stolen, which had an estimated worth of around $1.25 million. It is clear that Walker had no intention of returning the truck or surrendering himself to the authorities once he reached his destination.
Walker’s journey home would have taken him a considerable distance, as he was originally from Lawton, Oklahoma, approximately 785 miles (1,263 kilometers) away from the location of the theft. Thanks to the intervention of the police, his plans were thwarted, and it appears that he will be returning to prison.
Following the incident, Wilcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield commended the deputy and officer involved in the pursuit for their exemplary restraint and patience in resolving a complex and dangerous situation without further harm. Fortunately, no other vehicles were damaged during the incident. The stolen semi-truck was returned to its driver, who continued on his delivery route, while the Corvettes will be returned to the dealerships and eventually handed over to their rightful owners.
