Horner was at the forefront of attention, just like the gleaming RB20 machine, as he addressed the media for the first time since the emergence of accusations that pose a threat to his future.
In a tabloid-style presentation held at the Red Bull factory to commemorate the team’s two decades in Formula One, which included seven drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles, Horner expressed optimism about the future.
The controversial topic was not avoided for long, as the 50-year-old Horner conducted television interviews and media sessions, making it clear that he intends to remain in his position for the foreseeable future: “I refute the allegations, and it’s business as usual for me. I am confident in that. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be here.
“I prefer not to discuss the legal proceedings. My focus and dedication lie with the individuals and the team, ensuring that we are in the best possible condition for the upcoming season. It is evident that our car has undergone significant improvements compared to last year, and we can anticipate fierce competition from our rivals who are determined to surpass us.
“My primary focus is on the Bahrain Grand Prix next week,” added F1’s longest-serving team principal, who has been leading RBR since their debut as a constructor in 2005.
Formula 1 Testing will commence on 21 February, followed by the Bahrain Grand Prix a week later. Red Bull emerged victorious in all but one of the races last season, with Dutch racer Max Verstappen securing his third consecutive championship.
Christian Horner, who is married to former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell, declined to comment on the allegations against him or the recent hearing. Journalists were cautioned against raising the issue.
According to media reports, the complaint pertains to inappropriate conduct of a controlling nature towards a female staff member. Red Bull Austria initiated an independent investigation, but the origin and details of the complaint remain undisclosed. Sources suggest that the process may extend for a considerable duration.
Horner, who attended a private unveiling of the new car at Silverstone on Tuesday, expressed his unwavering dedication to the team.
When asked about his presence in Bahrain, Horner responded, “I have complete faith in the ongoing process and categorically deny any allegations made against me.”
He affirmed that he has continued his regular work routine and has received overwhelming support: “During moments of uncertainty, a team comes together, and I have never witnessed a more united and supportive team.”
“Our collective focus is solely on the performance of the car, defending the world titles we have diligently earned over the past few years. The car is what everyone is invested in,” Horner emphasized.
Verstappen, speaking separately to reporters, echoed the sentiment, stating that team spirit is stronger than ever and his relationship with Horner remains unchanged: “We have accomplished numerous achievements together, and that does not suddenly change.” (Reported by Alan Baldwin)
