Interviewed by Dutch Broadcasting Foundation just a few hours after his match at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, the 22-year-old young Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner reflected on the significance of his success at the Australian Open 2024.
“I receive a bit more attention, especially in Italy. When I arrived after Melbourne, there were many people. It was a new experience for me. I’m enjoying myself and I want to thank everyone. However, I need to focus on training and starting from scratch. Now there’s a new tournament and I hope to perform well. I declined many opportunities because tennis and returning to training are my top priorities,” he stated.
His first match in Rotterdam will be against a Dutch tennis player, Botic van de Zandschulp, whom he also faced in the first round in Australia.
“We’re playing indoors now, so the conditions are very different. I have a lot of respect for Botic. He’s a great player and the crowd will support him. So, I anticipate a pleasant atmosphere,” Jannik commented.
Sinner intends to solely concentrate on the Rotterdam event, setting aside the joy of winning his first Grand Slam title in Australia. The Italian is prepared to make his debut in the Dutch ATP 500, just over two weeks after that unforgettable final in Melbourne.
From his current demeanor in the Netherlands, Sinner appears to have moved past the celebratory phase and has firmly grounded himself, recognizing the immense amount of work that still lies ahead and acknowledging that the season has only just begun.
The schedule has presented him with another significant challenge. In fact, if he were to win the title, Jannik would ascend to the position of ATP No.3, according to the rankings.
