In recent years, the Boston Celtics have greatly benefitted from the emergence of Jaylen Brown. He has played a crucial role in the team’s deep playoff runs and is currently regarded as one of the premier players in his position in the league. With this in mind, it came as a pleasant surprise when Brown announced his participation in this year’s NBA Slam Dunk contest. While not known for his flashy dunks during games, it was refreshing to see an NBA All-Star take part in this iconic competition.
After the Slam Dunk contest, Brown openly shared his thoughts on his experience in the competition for the first time in his career through Legion Hoops on Twitter. “I believe that in today’s media-driven era, some players are simply hesitant to become viral memes or something of the sort,” Brown expressed. He further added, “I wanted to embrace the opportunity and have fun with it, and that’s exactly what I did.”
Despite not winning the NBA Slam Dunk contest, it was surprising that Brown even participated. While it’s great to know that he enjoyed the experience, his dunks could have been more impressive. Had that been the case, the Celtics’ superstar might have prevented Mac McClung from securing his second consecutive victory in the NBA Slam Dunk contest.
