Jessica Korda, a professional golfer who has won six times on the LPGA Tour, recently shared the exciting news of the birth of her baby boy, Greyson John Del Prete, on February 5. Korda had taken a break from competing in May 2023 due to back issues and later announced her pregnancy in August of the same year.
Korda’s most recent victory came in 2021 at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, where she engaged in a playoff with Danielle Kang. Her last tournament before taking a break was the Cognizant Founders Cup in May 2023.
For now, Jessica and her husband Johnny are focusing on their new addition to the family, but it’s likely that she will return to the fairways in the future. The LPGA Tour already has several active moms, such as Team USA Captain Stacy Lewis, Azahara Munoz, Inbee Park, and Cheyenne Woods.
To support professional golfers who are also mothers, the LPGA established the ‘Moms on Tour’ program in 2019. This program not only offers maternity leave but also provides travel support services and assistance with childcare and education while the players are competing.
The Rules of Golf are a standardized set of regulations and procedures that govern the game of golf. These rules are jointly developed and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, which governs golf worldwide except for the United States and Mexico, which fall under the United States Golf Association.
Every four years, an expert commission comprised of members from the R&A and USGA reviews and updates the rules. The most recent revision took effect on January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally aim to improve clarity and understanding and, in some cases, reduce penalties to ensure fairness.
The rule book, titled “Rules of Golf,” is regularly published and includes regulations for amateur status as well. In Italy, Federgolf is responsible for overseeing competitions and enforcing the rules set by the R&A. They ensure that clubs, associations, and their members adhere to these rules and manage any resulting disciplinary actions while safeguarding their interests internationally.
