Jos Verstappen, a former Formula One driver, will be participating in the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages, the second round of the Probite British Rally Championship, on April 13th. Verstappen, who is the father of F1 champion Max Verstappen, will be making his debut in both the BRC and the UK. This will be his first time tackling the renowned Welsh gravel. He will be driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 alongside his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul. The duo will also be introducing Skoda’s latest Rally2 model. Verstappen will be joined by his Wevers Sport teammates Roger Hodenius and Robin Buysmans, who will also be competing in the championship. This will bring an international flavor to the BRC. Verstappen has been steadily progressing in his rallying career since his first event in 2022. He achieved fourth place in the Belgian Rally Championship that season and even participated in his first FIA World Rally Championship round in Ypres. Last year, Verstappen switched to a Skoda Fabia and secured three rally wins in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has already added two more wins this season. Despite his experience, Verstappen has never competed in a loose surface event. Therefore, his debut in the British forest stages of Wales will be a new challenge for him. Verstappen expressed his excitement about participating in the British Rally Championship and mentioned that his co-driver, Renaud Jamoul, has previous experience in Wales Rally GB. Verstappen acknowledged that he only started rallying two years ago and has mainly focused on tarmac events. However, after two test sessions in the south of France, he and Jamoul decided to take on their first proper gravel rally. They believe that Wales is the ideal location for their debut due to Jamoul’s positive memories of the rally. Verstappen mentioned that they will receive valuable advice from Tom Cave during their pre-event test in Sweet Lamb. He acknowledged that there is no specific performance plan for this rally as it will be his first time on gravel. However, their goal is to improve and compete closely with the top drivers. Verstappen is looking forward to the competitive field that awaits them in the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages.
