As previously reported and confirmed, Lewis Hamilton’s tenure with Mercedes will come to an end after this year. Over the course of 11 seasons with the German team, Hamilton achieved an impressive six championships and a record-breaking 103 Grand Prix victories in Formula 1.
Mercedes aims to narrow the gap to Red Bull and fend off competition from Ferrari, McLaren, and other teams with Hamilton and Russell as their drivers. To achieve this, the team has introduced the W15 E Performance for the 2024 F1 season. This new car features a redesigned chassis, gearbox casing, and rear axle for improved control and DRS efficiency.
Technical director James Allison highlights the importance of the car’s aerodynamics, particularly how the floor interacts with the road, in determining its performance. The team has put significant effort into optimizing this aspect of the W15.
In terms of appearance, the W15 showcases a new livery to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Silver Arrows. The team has incorporated silver and black, with silver accents on the nose section and engine cover, while also featuring ‘Toto Rosso’ accents on various components.
One noticeable difference between the W15 and its predecessor is the shape of the inlets, which deviate from the conventional design. This unique feature is reminiscent of Red Bull’s RB19 from 2023, although the inlets on the W15 are narrower.
Fans can look forward to seeing the new W15 in action at Silverstone, with updates provided through the team’s social media channels. Pre-season testing will take place in Bahrain from February 21-23, leading up to the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Bahrain International Circuit on March 2.
