The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was a road car that resembled a race car. During the mid-1950s, this extraordinary two-seat coupe, which was based on the W194 racing car, had a unique tubular-frame construction and eye-catching gullwing doors that opened upwards.
This car was unlike anything the automotive industry had ever seen. It was lightweight, fast, and possessed a design that instantly placed it among the most stunning cars ever created.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was equipped with a 3.0-liter M198 straight-six engine, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. This powertrain generated 222 horsepower (215 metric horsepower) and 202 pound-feet (274 Newton meters) of torque, propelling the car to a top speed of 134 mph (217 kph). Despite its impressive performance, the car maintained a relatively low weight of only 3,300 pounds (1,500 kilograms).
To transform the iconic 300 SL Gullwing into an electric vehicle with a modern twist, the S-Klub team acquired a fully functional Tesla Model 3. They removed the Model 3’s body, made some adjustments, and placed the Mercedes body on top of it.
Now, the Mercedes-Benz appears almost indistinguishable from a Tesla. Even the camera and sensors of the electric sedan seamlessly integrate into the newly constructed body. The gullwing doors function just as they did before.
However, the interior of the car no longer reflects the style and elegance of the iconic Mercedes. The traditional slim steering wheel and refined dashboard have been replaced by a sleek, button-less, and switch-less design found in the Model 3. All functions are now controlled through a large 15-inch touchscreen.
The S-Klub team dedicated approximately two months to complete this project, often working late into the night. The next step is painting. The team opted for the same shade as the Model 3, a radiant Pearl White.
Additionally, they adorned the seats, dashboard, and various other components with a vibrant Tiffany Blue, a striking turquoise color that creates a stunning contrast with the Pearl White. This combination transforms the car into the perfect vehicle for a scenic drive along the Pacific Ocean coastline.
The turquoise accents on the interior also extend to the strip running along the hood, roof, and trunk lid, as well as the brake calipers. The model rides on 18-inch white wheels fitted with Toyo tires.
Named the Tiffany 300 SL due to its appearance, this fusion of Tesla and Mercedes-Benz was showcased at the SEMA 2023 event in Las Vegas. The project was overseen by John Sarkisyan, the CEO of S-Klub.
