The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League witnessed an impressive display of teamwork from Jaguar, as they secured a 1-2 finish at the Monaco Formula E race. Mitch Evans took the victory, with his teammate Nick Cassidy close behind. Starting from the second row, the duo quickly made their way to the front by strategically deploying their attack modes. Once in control of the race, Evans and Cassidy took turns holding back the pack to ensure they could use their attack modes without compromising their positions. This tactic proved successful as chaos ensued behind them, resulting in two safety car periods. Despite the challenges, Evans maintained his position and claimed Jaguar’s first Monaco FE win, with Cassidy finishing just 0.9 seconds behind.
In a show of solidarity, Cassidy acknowledged Evans’ contribution to the team’s success, declaring him the “teammate of the year” over the team radio. This statement reflected Cassidy’s acceptance of his role as the second driver in the 1-2 formation. The DS Penske team faced their own challenges as Vandoorne fought to keep Vergne and Wehrlein at bay, ultimately securing the final podium spot. Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland showcased an impressive performance, climbing from 15th to sixth for Nissan. Antonio Felix da Costa also demonstrated resilience, recovering from a setback to finish seventh for Porsche.
Reigning champion Jake Dennis endured a difficult race, finding himself in 20th place after a collision with Robin Frijns forced him to pit for a new front wing. McLaren’s reserve driver, Taylor Barnard, had an unexpected opportunity to make his FE debut after Sam Bird’s injury. Despite starting at the back of the grid, Barnard showcased his skills and finished a respectable 14th. Bird will receive further treatment upon returning to the UK, with the next FE event in Berlin just two weeks away.
