In a surprising turn of events, Kliff Kingsbury, who was believed to be the top choice for the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator position, opted out of the role. Instead, he made a quick deal with the Washington Commanders. Many speculated that the Commanders enticed him with the opportunity to work with former college teammate Caleb Williams, who is now their star quarterback. However, NFL insider Adam Schefter recently disclosed that there were additional factors at play. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Schefter revealed that the Raiders were unwilling to offer Kingsbury a three-year contract, whereas the Commanders were more than happy to do so. This contractual dispute ultimately tilted the scales in favor of the Commanders, making it an easy decision for Kingsbury to join forces with Dan Quinn. Last season, the Commanders had one of the league’s weakest offenses, and with no interest from Eric Bieniemy to become their head coach, it was not surprising to see them aggressively pursue a suitable replacement. Although Kingsbury’s tenure as a head coach was not particularly successful, his prowess as an offensive mind has always been recognized. It will be intriguing to witness his impact in the nation’s capital.
