Many individuals would go to great lengths for the opportunity to pursue a career in professional golf. Ben Griffin, who turned pro in 2018, has been fortunate enough to live that dream. While he has accumulated over $2 million in earnings during his time on the PGA Tour, he has also had to invest a significant amount of money to participate in tournaments.
Originally from Chapel Hill, Griffin played collegiate golf at the University of North Carolina before transitioning to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2018. Although he briefly stepped away from the sport to work as a loan officer for a mortgage company, he was able to secure his PGA Tour card after playing a round with the CEO of an investment firm, who agreed to financially support him in his pursuit of his golfing aspirations.
While Griffin has yet to claim his first victory on the PGA Tour, he achieved a tied third-place finish at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in 2022, secured the 63rd spot in the FedEx Cup rankings, and concluded his debut season with a total of $2,008,294 in prize money.
However, as he recently mentioned on TikTok, Griffin also faces numerous expenses on a weekly basis while competing in tournaments worldwide.

As Griffin points out, he, like nearly every golfer on the PGA Tour, doesn’t have to worry about purchasing clubs, balls, and other equipment. Additionally, players have access to courtesy vehicles for transportation once they arrive at an event.
Nevertheless, being a PGA Tour golfer entails various other weekly expenses that Griffin must personally cover, including:
Based on these figures, a “budget-friendly” week (without factoring in the caddy’s percentage) would cost Griffin $4,400, while the most expensive week would amount to $8,800.
Furthermore, as Griffin acknowledges, these calculations do not include additional expenditures on coaches, trainers, and travel costs for bringing family members and close friends to tournaments. Therefore, while being on the PGA Tour may seem like an enviable profession, it is undeniably a costly one.
