Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal reunite once again thanks to Amazon Prime, which is working on producing a documentary about the final days of Federer’s career at the Laver Cup 2022, where he played his last match alongside his Spanish friend and rival.
The purpose of this project is to provide a unique perspective on Federer’s life, including an interview with his wife, Mirka Vavrinec. The documentary is set to be released in July, coinciding with the 2024 edition of the Wimbledon tournament.
“It offers a glimpse into my life during those challenging and intriguing 12 days. I have never allowed anyone to enter my personal life, but in this documentary, they were granted access to the hotel. As a result, it is an incredibly personal film that also sheds light on the relationships among tennis players on the Tour. It delves deep into another aspect of the tennis world, showcasing the rivalries on the court as well as the friendships and respect off the court,” explained Roger Federer in an interview with Bloomberg.
In a surprising move, Mirka Federer, who has traditionally avoided interviews alongside her husband, will share her perspective on camera for the first time. The film is a collaboration between filmmaker Asif Kapadia and Amazon, aiming to chronicle the final 12 days of the tennis legend’s career.
The production company plans to release the documentary in July, around the time of the Wimbledon tournament, an event Federer has won a remarkable 8 times. However, the exact release date has not yet been officially confirmed.
This documentary will be the first of its kind to recount the story of Federer, who achieved 20 Grand Slam titles between 2003 and 2018. Although this record has since been surpassed by Nadal with 22 Slams and Novak Djokovic with 24 Majors.

It is important to note that the documentary does not provide a comprehensive account of Federer’s entire life or career. Instead, it focuses solely on the moments from those days at the Laver Cup that have left a lasting impression on tennis fans. One such moment is the iconic photo that captures the emotion shared between Federer and Nadal, long-time rivals who have also developed a friendship over time.
Additionally, the documentary features interviews with Federer’s main competitors throughout his career, including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray.
