Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rohit Sharma propelled India to a dominant position in their second innings on Day 4 against England. On Sunday (February 18) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Jaiswal achieved his second double-century, while Sarfaraz, who made his debut in this match, scored his consecutive fifties.
However, Sarfaraz became agitated due to the fear of a run-out. This occurred after the third delivery of the 94th over. Sarfaraz was batting at 47* from 56 deliveries, while Jaiswal was at 196* off 225 balls.
Rehan Ahmed bowled to Sarfaraz and he attempted to take a single. Sarfaraz wanted to take additional runs and had already reached the middle of the pitch, but as Jaiswal declined the double, the 26-year-old swiftly ran towards the other end and fortunately, he did not get out like he did in the first innings after a misunderstanding with Ravindra Jadeja.
Immediately after reaching the crease, Sarfaraz scolded his Mumbai teammate and could be seen saying, “Are you mad?”
Captain Rohit Sharma, who witnessed the entire incident from the dressing room, appeared distressed. Sharma had previously shown anger when Sarfaraz fell victim to a runout in the first innings, even throwing off his cap.
When Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan were batting, the Indian dugout was at ease as they surpassed 450 runs and quickly reached 500. Jaiswal came to bat on Day 4 after Shubman Gill’s dismissal. Notably, Jaiswal opened the innings for India and had to retire hurt soon after scoring his century.
So when Jaiswal joined Sarfaraz, he soon surpassed 150 runs. In the 85th over, after reaching his 150, Jaiswal hit three consecutive sixes off James Anderson’s bowling. The 22-year-old smashed the three sixes on the first, second, and third delivery of the 85th over.
India declared their innings at 430/4. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 214 runs from 236 balls, while Sarfaraz made an unbeaten 68 runs off 72 balls.
