The NFL offseason is here and every team is looking ahead to the start of the new league year and free agency. Many impactful players are set to hit the open market in March. One position that numerous teams will be keeping a close watch on is the quarterback position. There are several talented quarterbacks in need of a new contract. One of the top available free agents is Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Although his previous season was cut short due to an Achilles injury, Cousins is expected to be fully recovered and ready to go for the start of the next season. The only question that remains is which team he will ultimately sign with.
According to Skip Bayless, Cousins is not deserving of the hefty paycheck he is about to receive. Bayless went as far as calling Cousins “The most overpaid single player in the history of the NFL.” Despite Cousins’ lack of playoff success throughout his career, he has proven himself to be a solid player. Bayless even acknowledged the scarcity of quality quarterbacks in the league. Given this, Cousins is undoubtedly one of the top 20 quarterbacks in the NFL and should be starting for a team in 2024. While he may not be a game-changer, if placed in the right situation, he has the potential to lead a team to the playoffs. Despite the likelihood of him being overpaid in free agency, it may still be a worthwhile investment for a team in need of a starting quarterback.
