ESPN, an American media outlet, has rejected claims that Kylian Mbappe has already signed a contract with Real Madrid. Instead, they have stated that the two parties are still in the process of finalizing the terms of the deal.
Last week, several prominent journalists, such as Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, reported that Mbappe had made the decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the 2023-24 season. Despite PSG’s initial attempts to secure a new contract for the French international and their lucrative offers, Mbappe remained steadfast in his decision. Eventually, news broke that he had directly informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his intention to leave Parc des Princes.
Romano also mentioned that Real Madrid was actively working on the transfer, although he did not confirm it as a done deal. On Monday morning, the Spanish outlet MARCA claimed that the 25-year-old had signed his contract with Real Madrid, stating that the negotiations had finally reached a conclusion. Several other sources supported this report, asserting that the deal had been finalized in January.
However, ESPN has refuted these claims, citing their own sources who state that the two parties are still in the process of negotiating the contract. According to these sources, Real Madrid submitted their final offer last month, but there are still some discrepancies regarding the terms of the contract. Nevertheless, Real Madrid is reportedly confident that the deal will be completed soon.
According to MARCA and Diario AS, Mbappe has allegedly signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid and will join the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium once his contract with PSG expires. It has also been reported that Mbappe has agreed to take a pay cut in order to fulfill his dream of playing for Real Madrid. The salary he is expected to earn during his time in the Spanish capital is estimated to be around €15 million – €20 million, making him the highest-paid player at the club. However, this salary is reportedly lower than what Real Madrid had offered him in 2022.
Mbappe, who is PSG’s all-time leading scorer, joined the club from AS Monaco in July 2017. He has played 291 games for PSG, scoring 244 goals and providing 105 assists. During his time at the club, he has won 12 trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles.
